Raksha Bandhan, which literally translates to "bond of protection" in Sanskrit, is a Hindu festival celebrating the bond between siblings. This year, Raksha Bandhan is on Monday, August 19, 2024. It's traditionally marked by a sister tying a holy or a decorative thread around her brother's right wrist, as a symbol of her love and well-wishes. In return, the brother offers a gift and promises protection. This festival has become more inclusive over time, and celebrates bonds between sisters, brothers, cousins and friends.
